SLAAP WINS PROJECT FUND

I Transform!





It was a long travel from Marawi City to the city of Davao. Two student leaders from the Student League for Academic Advancement and Progress (SLAAP) and four from the University Student body the Supreme Student Government (SSG) constituting six delegates to attend the “Philippine/  I Transform! Young Leaders Convention, Mindanao Wave” bringing advocacy in education. This year’s convention is focused on United Nations Millennium Development Goals September 20-23, 2013.

This momentous youth convergence is participated by universities and colleges nationwide and is organized by YouthLead Philippines, Institute for Youth Development Affairs of the Philippines, World Youth Alliance Asia Pacific, Kabataang Inspirasyon ng Sambayanan, Kabataang Pangarap ni Rizal and the Mindanao Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization united with one goal of achieving global action, thinking new innovation and promoting peace and solidarity. Endorsed by Commission on Higher Education, DepEd, DILG and the National Anti-Poverty Commission.

On the first and second day of the convention, series of lectures on UNMDG’s and other related issues are discussed as well as numerous team-building activities were conducted to hone the leadership skill of the youth leaders. Speakers from the United Nations were also invited to talk and impart information regarding the duty, status and other updates of the current situation of the Philippines towards achieving UNMDG. The delegation of MSU-Main had participated in the Kabataan Fair held on the third day of the convention.

They presented a project proposal named “Education Day for the Unfortunate Young Moro. On the same day, they were hailed champion in said competition and bagged grant amount of P10, 000.00 for the initial mobilization of the project. After the positive outcome of the project, another P10, 000.00 will be handed to finish the proposed project.  There were eight (8) competitors in the position yet MSU-Main never failed to acquire it.

The youth has the power to innovate ideas and put them in action. We just need to dream, imagine and work to triumph it. The six delegates headed by Hobaib Saiben the President of SSG, Simon Rey Gaper the SLAAP President, Raffi Dimakuta, Moh’d Binladen Sohayle and Shalahudin the SSG Councilours and Raxiey the Deputy-Secretary of the Movement of Anti-Trafficking Advocates Mindanao have never ceased to dream- a dream for change.
